Don’t Go Running This Winter without the Proper Gear

You certainly can't go outside wearing just a short-sleeve t-shirt, but wearing a heavy hoodie isn't ideal either. Wearing heavy winter clothes while trying to run will slow you down and there's a good chance your body will actually overheat if you put on too many layers. The perfect solution is to seek out a long-sleeve performance shirt that can provide at least some warmth without overheating you or weighing you down. Most long-sleeve performance shirts are also great at wicking moisture away from your body so you won't feel uncomfortable during your long run.

Gloves That Let You Move Your Fingers

The human body tends to provide heat to your extremities last. If you are going to be outside for a long period of time, you must invest in a good pair of gloves. But again, you want to opt for something that doesn't feel too bulky. You're going to need to be able to move your fingers inside the gloves so you can pull an energy bar or anything else you need out of your running pack.

Foot Warming Pads

Your feet will be doing quite a bit of work this winter so it's important that you keep them warm as well, especially if you are going to be running through a bit of snow or ice along the side of the road from time to time. One of the best investments you can make is to purchase a few warming pad inserts for your shoe. These can be found at any sporting goods or athletic store and can simply be placed at the bottom of your running shoes. The pads will slowly heat up once activated and your feet will feel nice and toasty as you put in the miles.
